Sustaining the Human Future: Exploring Ethics and Politics of Climate Change

HKS Program on Science, Technology, and Society

4:00pm | HLS Hauser 105

640A9CThis workshop will be a deliberative exercise about the ethics and politics of addressing climate change, focusing on a hypothetical proposal to make carbon a global currency as a means of adapting to climate change. From the perspectives of individuals, experts, and societies, participants will discuss how the problem of climate change gets framed and distributed, who is responsible for “solving” it, and how our sense of who we are and who we want to be gets wrapped up in these efforts. Join us to discuss and reflect on not just what we should do but how we know what the “right thing” to do might be in the first place — and what is at stake in the kinds of futures we collectively envision.

Our vision

When?

Intersectional Earth Week will take place during the week leading up to Earth Day: 4/17-4/21. On each day, there will be any number of events to partake in.

We will hold a culminating action on Earth Day itself, 4/22!

Who?

The Harvard Climate Coalition will collaborate with various student groups on campus to organize a series of events and actions aimed at educating and engaging the Harvard community on the intersections between the climate crisis and our own lived experiences.

Why?

Our aim is to highlight how the climate crisis exacerbates other forms of social injustice, impacts our career choices, sparks forms of creative expression, and more. Our goal is to promote a holistic understanding of the climate crisis and to encourage everyone to take action to address this urgent global issue.
